Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children review

Summary:

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.

A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Plot:

This book is definitely nothing like anything I’ve ever read before (that’s a compliment). With every page came a new adventure, and more and more secrets were spilled. However, booktubers had gotten my expectations pretty high, and it fell short of 5 stars. Don’t get me wrong, this was still a heck of a book, it just wasn’t as AMAZING as some people made it out to be (that’s just my opinion). One thing that was an awesome touch to the book was all the cool pictures. It made the book go by even faster, and made it more fun. Also, everybody made it out to be horror, but it wasn’t even creepy. Like, honestly people! I’m in middle school and I didn’t think it was scary at all. But then again, I read it about 3 weeks ago, so who knows?

Characters:

Honestly, I didn’t get attached to any of the characters, and could care less if one of them died. They didn’t have much depth to them. On a side note, I got a little confused on Emma’s peculiarity. I thought her power was light in her hands, but the movie made it out to be that she could levitate. If you can clear up my confusion in the comments, that would be a big help. 

Overall & Recommendations:

This was such a cool book. I’ve never read anything like it. This series is definitely worth continuing, and I will hopefully be picking the next book in the next month or so. Like I said above, I didn’t think this was scary in the least bit. Still, there was quite a bit of language, ect. 12+
